July Landscaping Checklist

Landscaping in the summerWe hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend with family and friends and were able to enjoy the sun. Now that summer is in full swing we want to give you some pointers so you can maintain your landscape even through the heat of the summer.

Maintain your landscape for the summer

By now, hopefully all of you have a watering schedule that you are keeping to. In the upcoming months be prepared to water your lawns, trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials watered by covering them with at least 1-2 inches of water a week. This seems like a lot but we want to help you keep your hard earned landscape looking beautiful all summer long.

In addition to increasing your watering, July is the perfect month to raise the height of your mower. Keeping the blade higher wild not only keep your lawn free of clippings but it will also help your lawn stay healthy by allowing the blades to grow more freely.

By the Forth of July your corn should be knee high. Though your corn may not be ready, check the packages for all your other plants to see if it is time to harvest them. In the coming weeks, check your garden for edible crops and make sure you are pulling any weeds that could stun their growth. Also while you harvest, make sure you record how much your garden produced to help make planning for next year’s garden easier.

Finally, check your indoor plants for pest and give them a good wash.  Wash off any dust that has accumulated on the leaves and check for pests (or damage caused by pests). Apply fertilizers as needed as well.

Enjoy the summer sun and stay tuned for some new images coming soon of landscapes we have done across the Rochester area in the past year.
